US Vice President JD Vance, alongside Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, arrived in Switzerland's Bürgenstock resort on 21 June 2026 for quadrilateral talks also involving the prime ministers of Qatar and Pakistan, as Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz over alleged ceasefire violations in Lebanon. Iran's chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf stated that Tehran's priority is to secure US implementation of an existing Memorandum of Understanding before agreeing to further technical discussions on Iran's nuclear programme. The talks are designed to run 60 days, covering Iran's nuclear programme and the Israel-Lebanon conflict as the two main sticking points.
