Singapore's MDDI to hold focus group with parents on making social media safer for children

Singapore's Ministry of Digital Development and Information (MDDI) will hold a focus group discussion with parents to gather views on government plans to create child-safe digital environments on social media, jointly organised with The Straits Times. Participants will weigh in on whether children under 13 should have access to social media platforms, and what age-appropriate safeguards should apply for those aged up to 18. The session aims to raise public awareness of ongoing government efforts to address the risks of algorithmic platforms — including features such as infinite scrolling and recommendation engines — to young users.
