On 28 June 2026, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched ballistic missiles and drones at the US Ali Al Salem airbase in Kuwait and the US Fifth Naval Fleet at Port Salman in Bahrain, one day after US Central Command struck 10 Iranian military targets at Sirik, Bandar-e Lengeh, and Qeshm Island near the Strait of Hormuz. Both Kuwait and Bahrain condemned the attacks as violations of their sovereignty, while Qatar urged restraint; the escalation placed the US–Iran peace talks under severe strain. A Panama-flagged oil tanker carrying over two million barrels of crude was also attacked near the Strait.
