Iceland rejects EU membership talks in referendum with 82.5% voter turnout

Icelandic voters rejected a government proposal to reopen EU accession talks, with 52.8% voting no in a closely fought referendum that drew an exceptionally high turnout of 82.5%. The result was celebrated by Eurosceptic figures across Europe.
