Kevin Gao, a 23-year-old American studying at Nanyang Technological University on exchange, was sentenced to 20 weeks in jail on 19 June 2026 after stalking two 17-year-old girls he had befriended on Discord and Roblox. When the girls cut contact, Gao paid a Russian dark-web hacker going by 'Wracker' US$3,000 in Bitcoin to gain live access to their Telegram accounts, and separately attempted to call a third victim at least 1,000 times. Singapore courts convicted him of unlawful stalking and unauthorised computer access offences; Gao had already received a police stern warning for stalking in September 2024 before escalating to cybercrime.
